Care Instructions

How to wash jeans properly and care for trousers: Everybody would probably like to keep their favourite trousers as long as possible. Therefore individual care instructions should be followed. Hand wash or washing machine? What temperature is good for the jeans? Are the trousers suitable for the dryer and may you iron them?

Every MAC trouser answers these and other questions – in the form of a care label with brief washing instructions on the inner waistband. The tips are provided in the form of symbols and text, individually adjusted to each pair of MAC trousers. When it comes to washing trousers and jeans, there are obviously questions everyone can only answer for themselves. For instance, how often you wash your jeans. As a general rule, jeans should not be washed unnecessarily often, as even the best fibres may suffer from frequent washing. To provide extra comfort and ensure a good fit, our jeans contain not only cotton but also a small percentage of elastane fibres. However, as elastane does not tolerate high temperatures, proper care is necessary.

The detergent should not contain any bleach, and fabric softener must not be used with stretch trousers. Whether you have a cool denim look or chic cloth trousers – cared for properly, MAC trousers for men and women will give you lots of joy.

Cloth Trousers (Flats)

Washing

Close zips and buttons before the wash and take off decorations if applicable. Turn the trousers inside out to protect fibre and colour. Trousers should be washed at a maximum of 30°C on the gentle cycle or easy-care programme using a mild detergent. To avoid bleeding into other clothes we recommend that you wash similar colours together and to load the drum loosely and not too full.

The right detergent

A mild detergent, liquid or powder, is the best choice for gently cleaning and caring for your fabric. Detergents for coloured clothes and heavy-duty detergents contain optical brighteners or bleaches which may damage the material. Fabric softeners should be avoided as they may cause the trousers to wear out and lose their shape. The amount of detergent should be adjusted to the amount of laundry, the general rule being ‘less is more’. Add detergent only via the powder compartment, never directly into the drum.

Drying

Pull the trousers in shape immediately after washing and hang them out, avoiding direct sunlight. Please do not put the trousers in the dryer, as the high temperature and spin speed are unsuitable for the material.

Ironing

You can iron your trousers as shown on the care label, usually at a low temperature.

Jeans/ Denim

Washing

Denim trousers with elastane fibres should be washed at a maximum of 30°C on the gentle cycle or easy-care programme with a mild detergent so the trousers do not wear out and to avoid damage to the material. Moreover, washing at low temperatures saves energy, thus protecting the environment. Close the zip and turn the trousers inside out before washing to lower friction on the fibres and protect the colour. This way your jeans will retain their original look longer. To avoid bleeding into other clothes we recommend that you wash similar colours together and to load the drum loosely and not too full.

The right detergent

Mild detergents, liquid or powder, is the best choice for gently cleaning and caring for your fabric. Contrary to detergents for coloured clothes and heavy-duty detergents, mild detergents contain neither optical brighteners nor bleaches which may damage the elastane fibres and the colour. Fabric softeners should be avoided as they may cause the trousers to wear out and lose their shape. The amount of detergent should be adjusted to the amount of laundry, the general rule being ‘less is more’. Add detergent only via the powder compartment, never directly into the drum.

Drying

It is best to hang out denim after washing and let it air dry, avoiding direct sunlight. Please do not put the trousers in the dryer, as the high temperature and the spin speed are unsuitable for the material.

Ironing

Jeans with elastane content should only be ironed at a low temperature so as not to damage the fibre. It is best to pull the trousers in shape after washing, when still wet, and hang them out smoothly.

To ensure you can enjoy your MAC trousers for as long as possible, we urgently recommend that you follow the individual care instructions which are provided in the form of symbols and complementary text on the care label.
